The Dubai Metro was supplied by Knorr-Bremse’s award winning EP2002 Distributed Brake Control, Knorr-Bremse Tread Brakes and bogie equipment and the Knorr-Bremse Oil-free Compressor. Each is designed to carry over six hundred and forty passengers, all trains are also fully air conditioned.

Of all the current WPSD projects for designing, building, installing and commissioning platform screen doors, the most spectacular one is in Dubai. At several million euros, the contract is the biggest ever received by WPSD from a single customer and at the same time breaks new ground: The company supplied more than 1,428 full height door sets of the very first platform screen door systems in 102 stations in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

The Dubai International Airport is undergoing a massive expansion programme which will boost its capacity from 60 million to 90 million passengers per year by 2018. Bombardier Transportation has signed a contract with construction contractor Al Jaber L.E.G.T. Engineering and Contracting (ALEC) L.C.C. to design and build an INNOVIA APM 300 automated people mover (APM) system for the Dubai International Airport. The transit system will connect the existing Terminal 1 to the new Concourse 4.

Etihad Rail, the master developer and operator of the UAE’ s national railway network has selected Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), one of the world’s largest builders of diesel-electric locomotives, to design and manufacture seven heavy haul freight locomotives for delivery by 2012.

New York Air Brake and Lat-Lon have provided monitoring technology for 240 sulphur wagons supplied to Etihad Rail. Eight wheelset sensors per wagon measure bearing temperature and the degree of tilt to warn of potential derailment. The upper hatch is monitored for open/closed status by two more devices, and three sensors check the status of the bottom dump gates. This data is sent wirelessly to a receiver logic unit developed by Lat-Lon, then routed through NYAB’s Smart Car Sensor Hub and into the electronically controlled pneumatic brake communications/power cable for transmission to the locomotive.

As part of the Traction Motor overhaul, NTN branded Traction Motor Bearings were supplied to Dubai Metro.

As part of the Train overhaul, NTN branded Journal Bearings were supplied to Dubai Metro.
